cold air kit???!!

Those of you who have iinstalled a cold air kit on 1993 to 1997 z28 What is the best one and i mean best as in most hp and price with the least negative attributes. Are those ebay $89 specials any good? I mean $89 VS $200 ??
All it is is a pipe with a K&N filter right?

Re: cold air kit???!!

all the top brands will be within 1-2 hp of each other, with no clear winner. put each brand on 4 different cars and you'll probably get a dozen different dyno results.

except for the G2 unit...sucks...barly better than stock.

ebay ones suck...they arn't even true cold air kits. they locate the filter in the engine bay still. the K&N, morosso and the like all issolate the filter outside the engine bay.

go with the one you think looks the best, some like the plastic some like the metal of the SLP

K&N I would say is by far the most popular..mainly due to its fairly cheap price and its quality. I dont know a Z28 guy without one. I know you can buy them as the whole kit from most auto stores now. The fact that its plastic or metal/polished is gonna cause you to pay less/more..to be honest..do you really thing 'blingin the air filter' is gonna make you faster or feel better about your car? All you need to do is put the K&N on or something non-constrictive..it matters nothing else. Just like teke says..its a matter of how good you need it to look. I can attest that my K&N looks just fine and I personally like the flat black plastic look over the polished fancy stuff. Makes it appear more stock.
IMO..go with K&N..best bang for buck from what I hear..and guys are selling them on this forum for a lot less then what most of us paid new! You can probobly get the used K&Ns for around $50 or less complete on here..if you want..buy a new filter for $50..or even better just buy the 'cleaning kit' for $20 at an auto parts store. Anything is better than the factory air intake..It'd be better to put a smurf under your hood, attatch a hose to his mouth and stick the TB up his bum and let the air pass through him rather than rely on the stock ones!

I've got experience with both the Lingenfelter and the Moroso. Both are black plastic and function/fit great. I've had the Lingenfelter cold air kit on my '95 since '95, and its held up great...Lingenfelter is selling theirs on their website for $159.00 which is a damn good deal...
