Code 16? "low resolution pulse "

Whats Wrong with the car? anyone have a clue as to what the code is for? The car runs for a few minutes after you start it, then just dies... anyone?

Its on a 94 Z28 Camaro (6-speed)

This is actually my car...completely stock with just a flowtech 3" cutout...fires up, runs for a few, dies...after that it won't start for at least 5-10 mins. Thanks

Means the wiring harness going to your opti or your opti is bad.

DTC 16 means the PCM can not find the low res pulse pattern from the Opti. It needs that pulse pattern to time the sequential fuel injection. When it can't find the pulse pattern, it shuts down the injectors and the fuel pump.

Re: Code 16? "low resolution pulse "

It's obviously not your problem since your car dies.
But I did want to throw it out for future reference.

You can and will throw a code 16 when voltage drops REALLY low. Meaning if you leave your lights on, and your car almost doesn't start you probably triggered a code 16. But it won't make your light come on.

When I had my battery in the back I would throw a code 16 on my scanmaster all the time. I got rid of that fiasco and installed a Harley battery up front. My alternator went out, and when that happened I threw a code 16 again. Charged the battery changed the alternator, and haven't had a hard starting OR code 16 issue since.

So what needs to be checked out/fixed? where is everything located that needs to be checked/fixed?

Make sure the harness is tight, it runs from the opti up to the passanger side of the intake. If you want to test it, I have the one off of my car. I don't know if it is the same though, as mine has been converted to the 95+ style. Did you change the opti yet? Hope everything works out for your buddy. I got that new motor ordered......maybe ill see you guys out this yr after all.

Did you put the plug wires back in the correct place?

Are you sure you indexed the splined shaft for the Opti correctly? It is frequently mis-aligned in assembly, even though it shouldn't be possible.

Re: Code 16? "low resolution pulse "

ok so here's the word...the guys spent about 6 hours on it yesterday after the opti install(not charging me for his time since he couldn't find the reason for the stumble). Tried a new coil, car ran same as it did before with the MAF off, fuel pressure was fine, plugs and o2's looked fine...when he hooked it up he saw a lot of knock, timing was being retarded and jumping around because of it. He doesn't want to touch the car anymore since he spent so much time on it and couldn't figure it out. Not to mention he wasn't making money off of it. His best guess was a new pcm; he said he saw an LT1 a few months ago with a similar problem and a new computer fixed it. This isn't just a slight stutter we're talking about...it's a full blown "falls on its face" once it warms up. Barely driveable. The mechanic was fully confident he indexed the spline shaft correctly, as I asked him...he's done these a few times before. Also, when he let the car idle and warm up the temperature just rose and rose without the fans being turned on...he had to turn them on manually to prevent overheating...coolant temp sensor was in working order too. Alright this post is getting long enough, any suggestions on what to do next?
