Are COATED Pacesetter Long Tubes Worth it??

Okay, I've done the whole searching the forum thing and have come up with an inconclusive stance. I'd like to pose a question as to is this worth it.

For $550, I can get brand new, Pacesetter LT's coated and shipped WITH a coated Y pipe, WITH fittings and gaskets.

Should I get these?? Running no cats is not a problem for me.

Should I delete the AGR and Smog pump as well?? What benefits from this and will this make the car run like **** without a tune??

Is this a good setup to do?

Oh yeah, I've never owned an OBI vehicle, only OBDII's, and do I have to get 02 sensor deletors for my car?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I would get the coated...the black painted ones will rust in no time.

Yes I would get the "race" version is what pacesetter calls them. They have no EGR or AIR provisions. The only thing you will have to do is have them programmed out of your PCM. You don't even have to unhook them. The only thing you have to do is where the small tube comes off the pack of the passenger manifold to the back of the intake. You'll need to make a plate to go on the intake. It's kindof football shaped. You can take off the EGR valve, but you'll need another plate to go on the intake. But like i said taking the EGR valve off is not necessary.

And you dont have dual cats, so you dont need 02 sims i think...i'm not positive on this cause i have a dual cat car.

i read somewhere that coated will net you a couple HP over teh painted one but im not sure the validity of that. i installed the uncoated pacesetter short headers and it looks like crap after all the paint burnt off. im gonna go with the coated long tubes. its worth the extra 100 bucks over the noncoated.

I would get the coated headers for the reason that not only can it add some extra power as noted above, but also reduces underhood temperatures. If you don't have emissions regulations, then I say go for the race version. Deleting the AIR and EGR systems will not net any power gains, but it will clean up the engine bay and once the AIR system is gone you will actually be able to see your headers. You have a 94 so you have OBD 1 so you have a single cat and you do not have a post-cat 02 sensor.

Re: Are COATED Pacesetter Long Tubes Worth it??

Hey thanks alot. Yeah, I had coated headers on my 99 GT before it got rear ended/totalled, and I have had this car not even long enough to look at it really. I love it, but I jsut wanted to make sure the Pacesetters were good.

If anyone else reads this, just let me know YAY or NAY on the Pacesetters. I WILL be getting the coated ones.

Oh yeah, does the AIR and EGR delete make the car run rough or anything??

The Pacesetters are definitely worth it, many of the board members have them considering the gains they offer for an affordable price. Your car will run fine without the AIR and EGR.

ehh i dont see a big deal in spending the extra money on a coating that is going to get "sandblasted" and chip away on the bottoms(like my friends did) Id go with coated only if I was showing the car off and wanted to woo people with the pretty shine. I can barely even see my headers..so uncoated is for me. You can thermal wrap em too.

Ceremic coating sucks. I havent had any luck with that crap. Check out how mine lasted after 2 (?) months. http://atljar.com/Undercar.jpg

My new headers were nickle coated. Been on there for well over a year, and no signs of rust yet. It was $100.

BTW, My new headers were also pacesetter (old were hookers), and I like the pacesetters better.

I don't know too much about the Pacesetters, but I do know that you are better off with the coating. I can't add too much to what these guys have already said because they are pretty much dead on. The coating is nice to have just as a preventative.

Re: Are COATED Pacesetter Long Tubes Worth it??

I got it done through a buddy, who knows a buddy type of deal. So I couldnt even tell you the name of the place. If you really want to go the same route as me, I could get the info for you.

Nickle dip is something that any place that does chrome can do for you. its more or less the basecoat for chrome, without the high gloss. It too discolors a little (rainbow effect) when heated, but I could care less.

Re: Are COATED Pacesetter Long Tubes Worth it??

Stainless is nice because it won't rust as bad but it does nothing to reduce heat in the engine compartment. Coated headers run cooler and reduce the risk of cooking a wire. I would get the coated headers. You can get the coated headers from TSP for $375 plus shipping and the y-pipe for $129 shipped from Neweraperformance. If you don't need the emission's controls then get the plain race headers. The install with the emission's headers is a much bigger pain in the butt.
