Clutch Swap: Pilot bushing or bearing?
Clutch Swap: Pilot bushing or bearing?
I am swapping the clutch in my '95 Trans Am in the next couple of weeks. I am really leaning toward the metal bushing unless someone changes my mind, due to horror stories I've heard. Also, what kind of grease to use to lube it with? Thanks.
Bushing for a couple reasons.
1. Only time the input shaft is spinning inside there is when the clutch is disengaged. Otherwise the engine is engaged directly to the transmission via the clutch.
2. If that bearing fails, I sure as hell don't want a bunch of little needle bearings chewing up my input shaft and end of my crank.
3. Few $ cheaper if I remember right.
I think that covers most of it
I just put some gear grease on it.
