clutch replacement

i will be having to replace my clutch pretty soon...first, any opinions on the best all around clutch (life and holding power) for about $300?...also...ive heard the t-56's are difficult to change the clutches in...is this just because they are so heavy?...i did a clutch swap (actually auto to manual conversion) in my 85 with a t-5...will it be more difficult than that?...thanks alot

If you take a look at the previous page, you'll find like 2 or 3 threads on this subject.
Most of the people swear by the SLP unit, which is $260 (pressure plate & t/o bearing only) and you can get a disk of your choice...
Removing the tranny is not a big deal, you can do it in 3-4 hours if you've done it a at least once. Just make sure you slide back the trans in the correct angle(straight), you don't want want to mess up the input shaft, etc..
I don't think the t-56 is that heavier than the t-5, it's aluminum.
Good Luck

it depends on how much and how fast you are looking to get the car on the road, i blew my clutch last year and did alot of research on clutches on the best and for the budget we all have so i spent 450$ shipped i got a spec clutch stage 2. i even called them for a little info about there clutch since i read it on project thunderchicken in gm high tech, and they suggested a stage 2 for the car even though i would be putting on mods later a stage 3 was not requested cause he said that clutch is not for everyday use driving, this would burn the clutch out even faster. so far all i can say is that i am thirilled to have it, the install was easy believe it or not but check your clutch master cylinder in case you might have streched it while the old clutch was going. i had to replace mine. but for the extra money thats what i would do and not settle for less cause you will know in the long run you get what you pay for. hope this helps out in any way.

I was/am very satisfied with my McLeod dual performance clutch. It was about $400 for the clutch/pressure plate/throw-out bearing shipped to me. The clutch swap wasn't hard, took two days taking our time (a friend of mine and myself) and it was a significant improvement over stock.
