clutch rattle
clutch rattle
When sitting still in neutral and clutch not pressed in there is a rattle in the tranny. Once you press the clutch in the rattle stops. I've heard this happen in other sticks but is there a way to eliminate it? Is it normal?

Re: clutch rattle
Mine does it and its a fully rebuilt 6 speed and a brand new street twin, it drives me nuts, but I can;t figure out how to make it go away. I actually pulled mine tranny back out and greased it more and it still didn;t go away.
Re: clutch rattle
Could it be the throw out bearing? maybe its a bit loose and when you press on the clutch pedal it applies pressure to the bearing keeping it from rattling. Never noticed a rattle in mine but I have a stock clutch so who knows

just curious if you guys can describe this rattle? I just bought this 95, its my 1st 6sp. I notice what sounds like a slight rod knock under the car. It will just knock for 10-20 seconds, then go away. Then come back a few seconds later, then go away. You can almsot set your watch to it. Therefore I don't think its comeing from the motor. It did seem to be comeing from either the oil pan or bellhousing. Is this what you guys are describing? Of course I hear this in neutral, with me under the car. Maybe I should listen under the car with someone else holding the clutch in? I would think if its a rod bearing, it would be a constant knock and never go away. So this is what was confusing me. Then I saw this post, and thought maybe this was what I was hearing?

Re: clutch rattle
its normal in a manual especially one with some miles on it. It is even louder with an aftermarket clutch and louder still with an aftermarket fly wheel.
As for the rod knock question, it does sound like a trans noise not rod knock. rod knock would be constant and would increase along with the rpm's
