Question Clogged Cat?

HEY everybody,
I have a problem, and need your opinions on what it might be. I was driving my car on the highway lastnight, then my car started bogging bad on me. Luckily, i wasn't far from home. It was running goood all day, till the ride home from my budddies home, about a 45 min drive. My buddy, said he saw black smoke when i was at a stop and then, when i floored it, black smoke came out. When i finally got home after the shi** drive home, when i pulled my 94 z in the garage, i noticed the temp was slightly higher than usual, and i felt a lot of heat under the passenger side. I smelled, like a burning smell. Oh yea, my ses light came on on the highway, then after a while went off. I think my cat is clogged and need to replace my o2's. What do u guys think?
thanks

Typically a clogged cat would restrict high-RPM operation. How does the car react when you give it some gas? You could drop the cat and determine its effect on the problem.

As for the O2 sensors, if you have access to a scanner, how do the crosscounts look?

Will it rev to redline, or does it seem to hit a wall at a certain point?

Again, if that is a concern, I'd drop the cat and catback and determine if that makes a difference. That would give you a pretty clear-cut answer.

When my cat clogged up the exhaust note was very quiet, no power, and could put hand over tail pipes and feel very little ehaust exiting.

just drive it for like a half hour at night, when you pop the hood in the dark check if your headers are glowing, mine looked like the headers of a twin turbo car when my cat was clogged. IT also stuttered when i acceralated like you previously stated.

Check the fuel pressure. Mine bogged like crazy at WOT, so I checked the o2 readings and they were going to zero. Fuel pump wasnt putting out enough PSI.

i had the plugs changed, need to change wires, but haven't yet, changed 2 o2 sensors about 2 months ago, should i change the other 2 o2s? i just ordered a new random tech convertor and a slp y pipe while i'm at it. I had my converter clog up on me about 2-3 years ago. When i took it to the muffler shop, they asked me if i had hollowed it out, cause nothing was left inside the cat. I wonder if the same thing happened? y would this happen, it's like i have to get a converter every 2-3 years cause everything is gone inside the cat.

I think only the 96+ Cars got 4 O2's. However, I could be wrong. And if you are only noticing black smoke when you get on it, then you could just be running rich. If your car shows no other signs of problems, you are probably running rich.

94's have only 2 O2 sensors. One on each manifold. As for the black smoke......that's supposed to happen.
