I dont even recomend you use a garden hose. I did mine at the shop one day and it ran like crap for a few min. and i was being ver carfull not to get the opti wet but the water runs off the intake right on it. so I would say just try to wipe everthing you can with a damp cloth. But if its real dirty well all I can say is good luck but dont spray it with a pressure washer.

I washed/degreased my motor 2 weeks ago. I used gunk all over the motor but before I sprayed or hosed, I covered up the puter, and fuse box with a couple of garbage bags, and disconnected the battery. After washing it down, I put a squirrel cage blower on it for 2 hours. Then I pulled my coil wire and regreased it just to be safe. Many people say not to wash the motor but I have always been a sucker for punishment. If it aint broke, Ill break it and bitch about fixing it. lol

Glad that works for you!But if a leaky wp will kill an opti when running I dont recomend anyone trying it.

I'm still not convinced that liquids will kill the vented opti....or at least mine. I've power washed my engine bay on a monthly basis since I purchased the car, and I'm still on the original opti!

Did you reuse your opti for your 396

Believe it or not...yes, yes I did! I'm doing my own personal experiment. I want to know exactly how long an opti will last. My car is not my daily driver, so I don't really have a problem with replacing stuff. Some people thought that I was nuts when I put the original opti back on the car, but I had absolutely no problems with it before I tore the car down. Besides...I really don't see it as being a hassle to replace when the time comes.
