Cleaning LT1 Engine

Kind of a dumb question, but can I just spray my engine off to get rid of the dust or is that bad for it? My LT1 is pretty dusty from going to school out in west Texas and I want it to be clean.

I would not pressure wash the engine if thats what you want to do.
Water in the opti is not a good thing.
Your just gonna have to suck it up and hand clean the engine compartment.
I do this about once a week to keep everything relativily clean.
You won,t be able to reach everything but I get lots of comments on how clean my engine is and all I do is clean it by hand.

Do not spray water of any type in or at the engine compartment. Its just a good way to toast your optispark. The best bet is to take an hour or two and just wipe everything down with a rag. Maybe compressed air in the areas you can't reach.

How many types of water are there? I just use some rags and some Simple Green. It's the best stuff in the world for cleaning engines.

cover your opti with some plastic and a few rags and spray away, i use dawn liquid detergent and a good size terry cloth rag, and wear gloves, when you're scrubbing there are alot of jagged things that can cut you, depending on how dirty your engine is it should come out very clean, i wash mine about 4 times a year and it looks brand new, but then again my car only has 19,000 miles on it... good luck

I wouldnt spray water on any modern pcm controlled engine.....just too many electronic parts under the hood to screw up. Air compressor and elbow grease will get it done.

The automatic washes probably aren't to terrible since there really isn't any direct water going at the opti...at least there shouldn't be. As far as spraying your engine you can probably get away with it easier than others since your car has the vented opti which was used from '95 and on. Still it isn't good to do and your probably taking life off of it when doing so, but with '92-'94 Lt1s the opti wasn't vented and water that worked its way in had no where to go.
