Cleaning of IAC recommended?
Re: Cleaning of IAC recommended?
The part that usually needs cleaning is the port leading away from the pintle. You can clean it with carb cleaner. The importnant thing to remember is don't move the pintle or you can strip the gears inside it. I did mine and the throttle plate at the same time.
Re: Cleaning of IAC recommended?
Thanks for the reply. I just recently picked up an occassional vibration while the car is idling and wanted to clean up my throttle body and IAC/passages just to eliminate any maintenance items that might help. It doesn't feel like a missing cylinder, just a slight vibration. I am going to check it closely this coming weekend to make sure plug wires are secure and haven't gotten near headers and see if I can locate the cause of this vibration. No codes and runs good otherwise.
Re: Cleaning of IAC recommended?
I cleaned mine for the exact same reason and it didn't make any difference. With the ac running on a hot day my car will actually idle rough enough to set a "random mis" code. Still chasing that one and I now know that it isn't plugs either. If it isn't wires-about all that is left-then somehow, it must be the ac unit itself dragging the engine down.
Re: Cleaning of IAC recommended?
Thanks for the info. I think I am going to remove my belt and see if the vibration is still there...should tell me if it is alternator or A/C compressor/clutch bearings. Can't remember if it makes a difference if my air is running or not, don't think it does so that would kinda rule out compressor bearings. My plugs and wires are pretty new and secured very well so I don't think there is a burnt wire but I am going to check that too. I'll let you know if I find anything that might help you.
Re: Cleaning of IAC recommended?
I checked the car last night in the dark and my plug wires are arching like crazy. They are only 8 months old. I'm sure that is what is causing my vibration so now all I need is some better wires and some time to install them.
Re: Cleaning of IAC recommended?
They were Belden wires which I still feel are pretty good wires. I should have used some heat sheild of some kind on the boots and anywhere they get too close to the headers but I didn't and now I am paying the price. I thought since I had them secured very well and as far away as possible they would be ok but I was wrong. Went out last night in the dark and at least two plugs were arching between the boot and the base of the plug...looked just like two little light bulbs and was very visible once the motor warmed up. Gonna do it again tonight with some MSD's (that's what the local speed shop has in stock) and some heat shield on the boots and anywhere else they get close.
Re: Cleaning of IAC recommended?
Got the MSD 8.5mm wires and Taylor boot protectors and the protectors would not fit on the wires...the wires and boots were just too damn fat. Went back and got some OEM Beldens and installed the boot protectors on them and replaced the drivers side where the two that were arching were and it now runs like it should again. Now I just neet to go back and do the other side this weekend.
