Cleaned MAF, IAC, IAT, TB, and installed Holley Airfoil!
I just installed the Holley airfoil my grandparents gave me for my birthday. I have read all the debates, and I know it may or may not add any horsepower, but it definitely changed the tone of my car. I dont really understand how it could do this, but the car definitely has a deeper mellower tone now. I would say throttle response it better as well, but hard to say because I also cleaned my MAF, IAC, throttle body, and IAT so that may have had something to do with it. I have been battling a rough idle that gets worse the warmer it is outside, and this seams to have helped. However, I will not know for sure until it warms up outside, its in the 30's now. I am beginning to think that it may just be the age of the car though, the car has 108,000 miles, and I can hear the valves ticking even once it is warmed up, hopefully I can just readjust them and that will solve it. There was also some black residue coating the backside fo the throttle body and the entire inside of the manifold, it kind of had a oil/fuel smell. Is this normal with a car as old as mine, or could it be the indication of a problem? Just wanted to share my experience and ask a few questions. Happy Holidays all.
The air foil will give you better throttle response and 2-3 hp,as far as the buildup of the black residue if you haven't cleaned your throttle body every 6000 miles thats when I do it some people do it every oil change.I use fuel injector cleaner when I do it you will see all the carbon buildup blow out the exhaust when you start it up.You should have a lot better throttle response like you said when you do this.Happy holidays to you
Just a tip. when you clean teh TB make sure that you use a lube on the throttle shaft after you clean it. otherwise it will be dry and wear in the body and can cause problems if it wears excesivly. anything like WD40 will work
Im serious though guys, I dont know how it could have changed the tone, doesnt make any sense to me, but I swear it sounds different. It sounds different when driving and even at idle. Beats the hell out of me though!
