CLANGING noise in the rear end....

My car has made this noise ever since i have had it, its in the part of the drivetrain somewhere between the rear wheels and the driveshaft. its almost as if there is some play in the driveline, i'll be cruising on the road at any speed, (5-160mph) and i'll take my foot all the way off the accelerator, then if i put it back on quickly a get this clang noise. it sounds the worse though when i am accelerating past in first gear slowly and i take my foot off the gas b4 it shifts to second, then when it shifts to second i get a CLANG.

when i jack up my rear end and turn the tires while in park i hear the same noise. i took off the diff cover and everything looks fine, normal wear, nothing major for a car with over 100,000 miles. i even asked my mechanic to look at it and he did and said there was nothing wrong, just some play in the drivetrain but he said has long has it doesnt get worse it should be fine.

and it hasnt. it has done this ever ever since i bought it, its just kind of annoying, its not too bad though went the cut out is uncapped, but with it capped up u can hear it. sorry its so long but its just something i wanted to fix b4 i go off to college, same with that intake manifold leak, but thats another post. what else could it be? if the driveshaft wasnt balanced wouldnt it cause bad vibrations on the highway?

and its not the u-joints, i was going to replace them but i got under there and they are brand new
