Christmas List: Which Cam?
Well, I have had the CC306 but it was in my Formula and it had a 383 with ported heads so this one would be totally different so I don't have any experience to base it on as far as that cam. I was very happy with it in my 383 though. Definitely has good sound to it.
Does everyone think it is true that the 230/236 makes similar power to the HOT CAM on stock heads. My heads are LT4 heads if that will make a difference.
I have 3.73 gears already I should be fine with that gear in an A4 if I decide on the 847 shouldn't I?

from personal experience with both cams, the lt4 hot cam and the 230/236 the results at the track were 13.2 at 111 mph on the hot cam and the 230/236 was 13.3 at 109 mph. both had mac shorties and stock heads. the lt4 hot cam dynoed 334 on a stock cat back and the 230/236 dynoed 340rwhp. not much of a difference between cam, now why would you want a bigger cam if it makes similar power to the smaller one. the smaller one has a wider power band and better milage. heads will make some difference, but i think the end result will be the same. the lt4 hot cam will run fine with stock gears, the 230/236 will want gears. the 230/236 also falls flat on its face at just over 6k rpm. has steep ramp rates, which can be hard on valvetrain. just personal choice on my part im a fan of smaller cams with wider power bands. if your heads flow well youll make power regardless. my vote goes for lt4 hot cam

I have a 3200 Vigilante converter
The best I have had out of my HOT CAM is a 12.7 @ 107. I think I could do better with a bigger cam. I originally went with the HOT CAM because I was driving the car alot but now I only drive it on weekends. I also agree that it is a good cam though.

weekend strip car or weekend street car? the gm 847 cam is amazing and a few locals run it here, ones in the 11s on stock short block and ported heads, hes running a 3800 stall though. for the street the xe cams have great drivabilty, but im not a fan of them after ive seen two xe cams(230/236, 236/242) fall flat after 6k.
Mostly a weekend street car but occasionally at the track.
I have also considered keeping my HOT CAM and changing over to 1.7 RR's, but now I am leaning towards doing the cam swap.

That was part of my plan but the more I read the more I wanted a bigger cam. I think it would go into the 11's with nitrous. I had it on the car but took it off when i installed the HOT CAM, it ran a 12.2 @ 115 on a basicly stock car, just gears and CAI and a 13.5 @100 on motor. That was with a 150 shot though.
As far as being a lot of work I think it would be well worth changing rockers I saw a dyno of a car that gained 14 or 15 rwhp changing from 1.6's to 1.7's with the HOT CAM.
I am starting to think about the RR thing again, hehe.
I would just like to get some low 12's and eventually high 11's NA.

first try the RR they may be a worth while investment. see where that takes you. then some suspension and weight reduction if you have done so already. you may just get there without switching cams. then even a 50-75 shot should take you to your goals with a lot less hassle of doing a cam swap and tuning it. multiple cam swaps arent great for bearings.
I'm not that impressed with all the big XE grind results i've seen.
I trapped 111.8 with a 218/224. Yes, i have an M6 and should trap a lil higher then an auto. ~3850 lbs with me in it(i think the driver gets included in 'raceweight'). It was a quarry scale so i don't know how accurate that is, but my car has no weight reduction. Spare was in at that point although i have taken it out on other track trips. I could have more optimal gears and we don't have identical exhaust systems, bolt ons blah blah blah. Point is, those cams are different by 12 degrees duration and some lift, yet very very similar results..........

and 1.7 RR. its a lot of work to gain maybe 20 rwhp. a 100 shot should get you into the 11s if your already runnign 12.7
