Choosing a Catalytic Converter
Choosing a Catalytic Converter
Hey,
I think I need a new cat to replace my 104k stock cat, which is rattling, and possibly plugging a little. In searching for some, particularly in eBay, I notice most of them are rated: Max Engine: 5.9L / 378 cid, Test Weight: 6000 lbs. Now with my new 6.0L / 383 cid, weighing 3400 lbs, would one like this work? It says no, but what do these numbers represent?
Are they flow rate allowable, or air cleaning rate allowable, or what?
I'd like to get a high flow, obviously, but I do not want to gut it or get rid of it. My exhaust is already really loud, and I've gotten an exhaust ticket once already with my past exhaust, which is a little quieter than this, so I dont want to push my luck too much. Plus, I need to pass emmisions.
Any help, or knowledge of some cats that would work?
Thanks!

Re: Choosing a Catalytic Converter
I think Pypes on the supporting vendor page has a good selection of cats that will handle a 383. though I'm not really sure what the numbers are for exactly, I just try to make sure I'm within limits.
