Check this out!!!

Last Friday I dropped my car off at this shop to get an alignment, and I left it there for the weekend because me and the owner were going out of town. Well, when we got back home Sunday night and I was leaving his shop, I noticed that my car was making some really weird noises from the rear of my car. All kinds of knocking a loud ticking noises. So the next day I got the guy that installed my 4.10 to come and pick up the car and take a look at it. He pulled my rear housing off where the ring and pinion are to find that the gear was missing a few teeth and pretty much broken into.

I guess since the car was at the shop, one of the tech's there decided to do some joy riding in my car and broke my rearend.

Im now getting a brand new 3.73 in replace of the 4.10 and I dont have to pay a dime. It just sucks that these dudes decided to go dog out my car tried to drive it like they were JOHN FORCE!

Why are you putting 3:73's in your 6speed? Did you not like the 4:10's?

The 4.10s were way to much on an everyday driver. I know other people have them in daily drivers but I really didnt like it. I really didnt have a 1st gear. It was so short and produced so much torque that it would spin like crazy all through 1st. I couldnt pound the gas peddle at any rate of speed in 1st gear. It would finally catch traction in 2nd.

Im kinda glad this happened because Im getting the gear I wanted for free now!!!

You think I could really get more out of this than just a new 3.73 gear? The only thing is me and the owner are good friends and I would hate to sue him. Although I wouldnt car to sue the guy that broke my rearend.

WHt an excellent suggestion. Get greedy and file a post-frivolous lawsuit. You don't even have proof that someone took it for a joyride. Even if he is your "friend" you'll be surprised to see how "friendly" he is when you try and wreck his source of income and tarnish his rep.

If you're good friends w/ the owner and he knows who ragged on the car, perhaps you can come to an agreement, or even get him to put pressure on the individual who did it. The problem is, if he was driving your car hard enough to break the rear, what else did he fuhg up that might not show up right away? Did he grind a gear and mess up the tranny? Did he dump the clutch @ 6 grand thereby taking months off of it's life? Did he over rev your car? You know 6,200rpms isn't exactly good for your rings, valvetrain, bottom end, or anything else for that matter. What about your driveshaft? Have you driven it to see if he might have bent that? Certainly to mess up the rear he's cause stress on your u-joints.....what about when they go out in a year? Let's not forget tires. If I pay $200 a tire, every burnout on them better be from me. If it were me, you're darn right he'd be getting me a set of 3.73 gears.....in a brand new 12-bolt housing, with a brand new driveshaft, a rebuild on the T56, a new clutch of my choice, and a written guarantee that ANYTHING that needs to be replaced in the next 6 months that could have possilby been caused by his joyride would be replaced completely free of charge.
I had a guy at a Big 10 tire store (my car was in to get the tire patched) decide to do a nasty, sideways burnout out of the shop, then he tried to hang the rear out when he did a uturn down the road, and spun it 180 degrees. I'd told them that I'd be back later in the day to pick up the car and I rode off w/ my friends, but we decided to stop across the street for McDonalds. I watched the whole thing! I was out side bidging at the manager (of course he assured me that wasn't my car) when the guy came 4-wheel drifting back into the parking lot. I signed a notorized agreement 2 days later that I wouldn't take them to court in exchange for 1) 4 Falken Ziex, mounted, balanced, and aligned; 2) brand new GM rotors and EBC brake pads on all 4 corners, 4 shocks, 3) a 175 dollar inside/outside detail from a local detailer, 4) free road hazard on the tires, free remount/rebalance/realign, 4) $200 cash for any drivetrain wear and tear, along w/ a signed agreement that anything that broke related to the drivetrain in the next 6 months would be paid for in full by them.
That was all thanks to my mom's lawyer having a phone meeting w/ the district manager of Big 10 and explaining to them exactly why, they would be forced to buy my car for $2K over blue-book value if they didn't agree. Florida Law is VERY harsh on mechanic's shops that abuse customers cars. On top of all that, Big 10 agreed to put the mechanic on probation for 2 years, meaning one more screw-up and he was fired.

Ive got it at my mechanics house right now and hes installing the new 3.73. Im gonna have him look everything over really good and see if anything else is messed up. I really dont wanna sue this guy, he has helped me alot. But I will get him to agree that if anything is messed up he will replace it. There are some crooks out there and will try to get over on you. So far I dont think any of his guys has admitted to it, but Im sure when he finds out they will be fired!

Im just glad my NITROUS bottle was empty!!!!
