my check gauges light keeps flicking on and off. what does it mean?

 

Means one of your gauges is reading low, in the red, etc. When check gages comes on... Watch your gauges! Oil pressure gauge reading low? etc. etc.

 

the thing is nothing is reading low. volts are cool and oil.

If they're all fine, you have an open wire or two touching back there.

 

what does that mean?

 

That the wire that goes to the check gauges light is getting power intermitently. If you can get a wiring diagram out of a Haynes manual you can find the wire at the computer and trace to where the problem is with a voltmeter.
