Check Engine Light and Fan came on tonite
Has anyone seen this before? Both my check engine light and the Fan came on at the same time.
Now when I turn the car off the fan goes off but as soon as the engine is started again the fan comes on again.
The engine sounds and feels the same. no change there. I did notice a couple of clicks that came from the engine bay when I turned off and back on the engine. Normally I only hear the fuel pump solenoid but this time I heard two other simultaneous clicks.
The car starts and runs fine but the light and the fan are both on with the engine running.
Anyone seen this before??

It's perfectly normal. The fans are programmed to come on when the SES comes on. Get your car scanned, so you can find the source of the SES and fix it. You might want to check your AIR pump fuse. The pump is a common source of trouble.

Thank you Shoebox and Vinnie. I think you guys are right on the money. Sometime ago I disconected the MAF while in search of a misterious pinging at part throttle with the AC on and it did the same exact same thing. Engine light and fan both came on.
The clicks I hear maybe the Airpump too. I was replaced free as part of a recall over two years ago. Good thing its not needed in Hawaii. I will have the car Scanned though. Just in case is something else.
I will keep you posted for other members future reference.

Those clicks might be your AC compressor..
I herd clicks once, got under the hood with someone at the key. They turned it to ignition, and I found that apon ignition, the AC compressor engauged, and then shortly (1/2 a second) disengauged... It's clearly audible from the drivers seat.
I'm not sure why it does it..

The car is freaking me out. It fired right up in the morning and there was no Check engine light anymore!!! Gone... Car fixed itself overnite!!.
The night before I turned her off and on several times and the SES light was there plus the fan on. Now I drove all freagin day and its gone. Why am I not happy?? cause those ramdom problems are the most dificult to fix. It did it once I know it will do it again when I have a hot date in the rear seat...err the passenger seat I mean (evil grin).
Also another freagin thing... when I got tired of looking for loose conections I decided to try the Injector test. Ya know, pull the wire to see what the engine will do if one injector goes bad right?
Wrong!!! the freagin car idles the same!!! I pull one and nothing.. put it back on it was the same. I move to the other one and did the same test... nothing again... reconected it and no difference... I tryed the other two and no difference at all.... I know my car is not running with 4 cylinders.... so how come there is not difference when I pull one of the fuel injector conectors off and put it back on??
I swear I think I need an anti-viagra!!! All this testosterone is freaking me out.. I should be happy but I am NOT!!!!!!.....
just an update boys and girls.......

Just like I said it before, The SES light is coming on and off now. Just like I expected it, at random. I ordered a scanner yesterday and was advised it should be here on the 24th! A holiday!
, Anyway the Autoparts Jockey assured me it will be here on the 24th
.
We know better dont we? so someone (me) is thinking of evil ways to throw a fit it doesnt get here on time (Like you ruin my freaking Xmas, Coulndt go see my MOM
, Could not fix my G/fs Car as a present... I think I a gunna kill myself now!!!
).
Anyway My car runs fine, I am suspecting the MAF cause you can actually drive without it. Will mess with the dang wires today maybe a bad conection.

Ok here is another update... I checked the MAF conection and its solid... I unplugged every single Fuel injector connector and measured the Injectors resistance.. they are all about 12.3 ohms except for #1. I connected the DMM to it and it was hard to get a steady reading at first.... it went from abut 9.2 Ohms all the way to 16 ohms and in between. I was like "Gotcha!!" then it began reading normal at 12.3 Ohms. I know I saw a reading of 9ohms more than once, I cleaned it with nothing else but (dont flame it ok) Brakes parts cleaner!!! a couple of sprays on the connector and let it dry... checked it again and it was 12.3 Solid just like all the other 7 injectors. I may replace this injector because I saw the 9 ohms and it should never have a reading below 11ohms to begin with.
I drove for a couple of hrs today and I saw the SES light come on again and about 7 blocks down the street it went off by itself while I was driving. I thought the light itself had burnt out but its good.
I checked fuel pressure and Its good but I noticed it kinda moves about 1 notch up when the car revs down to iddle speed. I am soooo positive it has to do with engine vacum. I think I my vacum drops at Idle speed. I noticed my injectors move so easily side to side with almost no effort and I wonder if somehow the Orings maybe leaking too.
I will keep posting (shorter) updates so other people can learn from my progress. Ill buy a vacum gage from Sears tomorrow before work. I know it should read about 20inches on the gage so if its low that could be another problem.
thanks for your posts Its also possible my O2's are shot. I've 141k miles and they are the originals. I am gunna change them anyways, but only after I change my Injectors Orings so I can keep track how the car reacts to every thing I change. Like MPG increase or perhaps better vacum at idle...etc etc

Update:
Two more days before my new scanner "supposedly" arrives at the autoparts store. My SES light hasnt shown its ugly head again yet.
I just ordered the Fuel Injector Orings Kits (8). I think I have somewhat low vacum and I am pulling the injetors out to check for leaks and possible carbon/gunk fouling.
I kinda feel a slight miss at Idle.

Last Update:
Kudos to Kragen Autoparts. My scanner arrived one day earlier than expected. Got their call at home and picked it up next day.
I scanned my baby and turned out to be EGR Failure. I disconected ther EGR vacum line and plugged it just a day earlier and the computer caught it. I forgot to reconect the vacum line back.
Now time to fine tune the beast. =)

It sounds like you blew the 20amp fuse in the fuse box under the hood. This is commom for LT1s in the winter time. GM put out a service bulletin on it, the repair is change wire to a larger grade and up the fuse to a 25 amp rating.( poorman method; keep replacing 20 amp fuses) There is also a recall for air compressors.
Zjoker it was the unplugged EGR vacum hose. I was looking for a slight miss when I umplugged it and block it vacum leak with a screw in the hose tip.
I forgot to reconect it. The PCM didnt pick it up inmediatelly. it was a delayed effect. I reconected the Hose and my SES light is gone.
