Cheap Lifters

Anyone know of some replacement lifters that are around stock quality for a cheap price? I plan on replacing them when i do my 1.6 rr's next month. Should i just skip replacing them car has 125,000 miles. The reason i ask is because on really light acceleration i hear a ticking noise it sounds like it's comming from the valvetrain, but when i put a stethescope on the valve covers it sounds smooth, but from inside the car you can hear it as plain as day. Sounds like it is comming from right uder the dash. Is this sound like a lifter problem??

Your probably hearing the fuel injectors tick. Sound similar to lifters. I'd go ahead and replace the lifters though. Comp 850-16s work pretty well.

It could be an exhaust leak causing that noise too. I don't know of any cheap replacement lifters, but I wouldn't worry about them. Just put the RR's on and drive the wheels off of it. If it turns out you do need lifters then you have only wasted an hour installing rockers, rather than many hours and $200 for new lifters you didn't need.

The Comp Cams 850s are a decent oem type replacement. But I'll bet that you might find more than just a worn lifter or two. You might have a cam going down. Hope not. But, you won't know until you tear the engine down and have a looksy. Noises are hard to diagnose based on comments in a post.

How loud are the ticking of the injectors though........i hear it inside my car plain as day.........only on real light acceleration--probably because the exhaust is quit enough to hear it then.

What do you mean by a "cam going down"? Never heard this term. Would this make me run terrible times? Is it like the cam gets really worn? I'll definately agree noises are hard to diagnose.....i have heard everything. I didn't really plan on hunting down this noise because the motor needs totally re-built and i'm not building it back to stock. I just figured if I could get a cheap set of lifters and try that maybe it would go away till i have enough for the stroker motor.

Re: Cheap Lifters

Jason, lobes on a cam can wear down. I have experienced this and needed to replace the cam and lifters, but this may not be your problem. Several lobes and lifters were gauled and oddly enough it produced a ticking sound. You might just have a loose rocker or something entirely different.

If your engine is tired and needs a rebuild soon then you will find the problem upon tear down.

alright, I thought that's what you ment by cam going down. How much can they wear down.........i wouldn't think the cam lobes would be worn down at 125,000miles. But is definately a possibility..........maybe the guy who had it before me never took car of it.

The cam lobes shouldn't be worn down at all with roller lifters.

This can happen. It happened to me. I am not saying this is WK's problem. BUt just because a lifter has a roller doesn't mean that through long-term wear, or other valve train problem, a cam's lobe cannot be worn, gauled or otherwise damaged.
