Question cheap forged crank?

Do full-size GM trucks with Vortec and TBI 350 (87-newer for 1pc rear seal) have forged cranks? If not the 1/2 tons, do the 3/4 ton or 1 tons?
I figure if they came with forged cranks you could get one for next to nothing from a salvage yard.

edit: this is in LT1 Tech because I'm asking about cranks that will work in an LT1

You may want to look at a GM forged crank which is available through any GM high performance dealer.

Why not just buy a good Eagle steel crank for 200 bucks new. It will hold 600hp no problem.

Eagle makes a cast crank in the 250 dollar range, but they do not make a STEEL crank for LT1's for 200 bucks If they do , let me know where cause tha tis one hell of a deal.

I found out on a truck forum that the late models did not have forged cranks. I don't know where I got that idea.
I'll look in to that "cheap" Eagle crank. If it can hold 600 hp and is cheaper than a forging, then it should fit the bill. Is the Scat 9000 a steel crank? (I know it's not forged)

I do not think the Eagle cast crank will support 600 h.p. I have never see the steel crank which can support that h.p. go for under 500 bucks.

I have a scat 9000 cast crank and supposed its good to 700hp @ 7000rpm. My machine shop said he knew a guy making 800hp on it

he also says he wouldn't push his luck

SCAT cranks might be better than Eagle cranks. Every machine shop has a different opinion, like mine for example will tell you to stay away from a cast Eagle or SCAT if you are turning over 450 h.p. It also depends on how often the car is beat on, meaning only a drag car or daily driving ect. It woudl suck to dump a ton of money into an engine and then something breaks taking every piece with it. Thats why i say build it right the first time.

Anyway I seriously doubt SCAT or Eagle would make claims of using over 600 h.p. with their CAST cranks reliably. If they do say that themselves, then that is pretty bold LOL You would be taking a chance in my opinion. Thats why you see most guys buy steel cranks when hitting the higher h.p. ranges in the 500+ range

Good info. I will be making 450-475 (flywheel) on the motor, but will occasionally use a 150-175 wet shot of nitrous. So I guess that kinda puts me on the border line of these cranks. You can always find people making xxx hp on the stock crank or whatever, but I guess it depends on how much of a gambler you are.

Well I know alot of you run the scat 9000 , but my engine biulder said hes seen more than 1 or 2 break and recommended the eagle cast crank instead. ......I went ahead and did the eagle forged for piece of mind.....worth the extra $400 IMO.

To answer the original question, truck cranks are nodular iron. Are they any better than a stock LT1 crank?

That's an idea. Has anyone used one of those in a 500hp+ application?
