I'm not sure if you check out the lounge often, but I just posted there.. My local pontiac dealer wants to charge me $1700 for plugs, wires, water pump, and some PCM "Reprogramming" that they think is required.. I figured I would just do it myself.
Heres the thread
really u just gotta stick the socket in there and figure a way to turn it... thats what u must do...
like #1 was kinda hard for me but i used a 19mm rench to get the spark started cause the ratched just didnt fit... and for like #8 ur gonna have to get creative with an extension my basic socket extension was too long and the ratchet wasnt long enough, so i converted the size of my rachet twice and got a extension about half the size of the regular socket extender...
things like that just gotta take the time and do it, just from above reach in there and put that rench on... and get em out... it'll take u maybe 3-5 hours if u donno what u r doing... if the engine didnt have all the stuff around it and wheel welds and stuff it would take about 15 minutes
i still have to get to #7 im afraid im gonna break something w/ my hand in there trying to attach the ratchet to the socket...
but ohh well its not to hard just hurts ur hands and gets ur hands greesy

I can change my wires in about 30-45 minutes no problem since I have done it so many times. But the plugs are a bit different, sometimes you gotta take a step back and figure out how your gonna get a wrench in there and be able to turn it to get the plug loose, just take your time. And remember, throwing tools does help relieve frustration.

DO NOT LET THEM DO THAT WORK FOR YOU!!!!!
A: You never replace only the cap on the opti. Do the whole thing.
B: They're trying to hose you on the PCM
C: If they insist it's a recall, have them show you the proof. If it's a recall, they shouldn't be charging you for it then.
D: If the water pump isn't hitting, it's not going to hit.
Ok, that said, easiest way to do plugs and wires is to remove the alternator, that will open things up. Put the front of the car on jackstands so you can crawl under it easier. Other than that, it's simply a matter of taking your time. I've found that a standard spark plug socket and a 3" extension works fine for me. If you're patient, you shouldn't have a problem. You'll probably find yourself climbing on the motor to get to a couple of plugs, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck, but by all means don't let that Pontiac Dealership touch your car.
