Changing Shocks

On a scale of 1 to 10, how hard is it to just replace the front shocks and do you have to remove the spring to do so. If anybody has instruction that will be outstanding.

not to bad, there are 2(?) bolts on the bottom of the strut (the fronts are refered to as struts since they integrate the spring) and three small bolts on the top of the strut. When you take out the strut assembly your best bet is to take it to a NAPA of Autozone and have them seperate them and reassemble them. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE LARGE CENTER BOLT FROM THE TOP OF THE STRUT. That is how the assembly comes apart, and it will cut your head off, yeah, not ****tin. SO be careful, and if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email or instant message. Good luck, hope this helped, prorac1

Just to be accurate, the fronts are not referred to as struts, they are coil over shocks.

You can read through some of the details for doing them on Injuneer's page. (disregard the specific references to the Hals) Look at some pics on the bottom of the photo page, too.
One thing that can change the level of difficulty is if the nut on the top of the shock is badly rusted.

Yeah if that nut at the top is rusted at all the job becomes much more of a boetch. Most people I talked to said they are almost alwaysrusted because water will pool a little right at that nut. If you wanna do it right, i would suggest buying a pair of new Upper Shock Mounts (the rubber/metal piiece at the top) because chancesare you will need to replace it anyway. I had to...

Be glad to answer any questions if you want...Email me

1-10 10 being hardest

Front shock assembly is a 6.5
Equally as hard and time consumer as a header install.

It takes some time.. Do a search on my user name in the LT1 tech on the assembly.
