changing pistons

I have a low milage 355 shortblock (about 10k miles) that has forged -12cc dished piston and scat 5.7 rods. I want to change to -5cc flat tops and keep my 5.7 rods.

what are some good low cost .30 over flat tops?

do I need forged? I don't plan on N20 or any power adder.

can I re-use my rings from the diamond pistons?

should I buy new rod bearings? or if they look fine just re-use mine?

clyinder walls look good, was just going to hone them.

thanks

I just went through this. I switched to SRP with a lighter weight wrist pin so I wouldn't have to have the whole assembly rebalanced. You will need new rings and at least a hone.

No, first you need to weigh your current setup, pistons, rings, locks, and wrist pins then try to find a set to match the weight. I called SRP and they helped me out with a package. Or you can go buy what ever you want and have your rotating assembly rebalance with the new goods.

Re: changing pistons

Take a piston & pin to a good machine shop and tell them what you want to do, they will try to match up a piston that will go in without a re-balance. Or post up the weight of the piston and pin here.

You can have them ball hone the block to prep the cylinder walls for the new rings assuming that there is no abnormal wear and then clean the block really well.
