Changing Optispark - Does balancer need to come off?

According to the shop manual, to change the optispark you need to remove the torsional damper (balancer). I've got a blower to contend with and this job is going to be grim enough as it is...

Is it possible and/or practical to change an optispark without removing the balancer?

Thanks,
Dave

You have to remove the balancer to get the opti off...no way around it.

Yeah, the balancer has to come off. And if you S trim is anything like my S trim, you will need to remove it to access the water pump bolts. Sucks don't it.
