Question Changing O2 Sensors

The mechanic wants $250 installed for both o2 sensors.
I figure I can get them for $25-$30 ea form Dal or Jason.

So my question is are they accessible from up top, easy to get to, and where exactly are they? If I can see them & get them out I will definately do them my-self.

Thanks again

The one in the Y-pipe is not too bad but the one in the manifold can be a PITA its hard to get too and usually welded in. You can change them yourself but you may need a torch to get the passeger one out. Try it yourself cause you might get lucky and they come out real easy.
I would definately try it myself before paying 250 bucks.

The driver's side is SUPER easy. The passenger side is definitely harder, but not impossible. I got it from beneath w/o removing anything, but I have skinny arms.

You can get them for around $33 from Jason Cromer (GM parts seller, do a search here).

Are they directly in the manifolds?
Anybody got a pic or one of those parts diagrams like the dealers have?

Thanks again

I JUST did mine a couple days ago. The driver's side is mounted into the y-pipe. The passenger's side is mounted into the manifold.

I have a Borla y-pipe, so access to the passenger side is impossible without removing something. I pulled my starter out and it was right there. The driver's side was easy since I've had it out several times in the recent past, but the passenger side was a B#$%^. I soaked it down with WD40 first but it was still jammed in there.

Go buy yourself a 22mm wrench at a parts store. Makes it much easier. Just as I was about to let the CAR win the battle on the passenger side it popped loose like it was nothing...

I ordered my O2's from Carparts.com for 30-something each. You want the AC Delco part #AFS-75 sensors.

Oh yeah, I should mention that if you're replacing the original ones, you may have a tough time getting them loose.

I had to take the car to an exhaust shop for the passenger side--they said it barely came loose even with a breaker bar!

I was speaking access-wise in terms of ease/hardship.

After cleaning them recently, they were pretty easy to get out (make sure you put some anti-seize on them, it'll help for next time).
