Changed Water Pump & Now Have Oil Leak?
Ok, I changed out the water pump last weekend, and Monday I noticed a small oil spot in the driveway. It was about the size of a CD, and every morning there is a new spot. It seems to be leaking shortly after being parked and then quits, because the oil is very thin and almost dried in the morning. I haven't had a chance to get under and look yet. But where could this leaking from? My car has never leaked oil before. It looks like its coming from the front of the engine. My guess would be either the timing cover or the waterpump shaft, but the seal and bearing looked good on the shaft when I had the water pump off. And I didn't mess with the timing cover.

The same thing happened to mine, except I was having a performance shop install it. It turns out the special tool you are suppposed to use in order to correctly put the shaft seal on had a crack in it, so they ordered a new tool and reinstalled it and it worked fine.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.
Re: Changed Water Pump & Now Have Oil Leak?
The water pump drive shaft is the only place you could possibly be getting oil from. It's possible the seal in the timing cover for the pump drive is gone. But that shouldn't have come about just by changing the water pump. Did you notice an excessive amount of oil coming from it during the water pump change? You are probably gunna want to take a look under your car after youd rive it and pinpoint where the oil is coming from becuase i doubt it's coming from the water pump.
