I have a 95 z28 and we changed the oil and filter to a wix filter and havoline 10w-30 because thats what the manuel said but on the cap it said 5w-30 is it because of the thicker oil that my car dies at a idle? if so do i need to readjust the idle or change the oil to 5w-30?

I doubt the weight of the oil is the cause of your idle problems. Maybe something got knocked loose during the oil change or it is simply a coincidence it started happening right after the oil change.
