Ceramic Coating Intake???

I thought about sending my intake off to have it ceramic coated along with my headers. My question is would a ceramic coated intake retain cool air and keep the hot air out,or opposite?
Also, what's an average price to have the intake polished?
Thanks in advance.
JE

Re: Ceramic Coating Intake???

I haven't seen any negative effects of having my intake coated. Average cost in my area is ~$90.

Re: Ceramic Coating Intake???

ceramic coating keeps the hot air in
which is why headers are coated (also to help preserve them)
the coating keeps the hot air in and it reduces underhood temps because of it
so no, you wouldn't want to ceramic coat it unless you were going for looks

Re: Ceramic Coating Intake???

Well I guess thats out then.I don't want to do it if it's going to cause me to lose power.Just seems like if it would retain the inside temp it would retain the cold air and prevent the hot air from getting inside. What gives?
Anybody have any average prices it would cost to have one polished?
Thanks,
JE

Re: Ceramic Coating Intake???

Ceramic coating will keep the hot air out as well. I dont know if it would help much, but it would keep the cold air inside of the intake and the hot air outside. I dont see it keep the air inside hotter. You would get heat soak from the engine which would probably heat up the intake. I dont really know if it would help or wouldnt. I'd say it's not worth it, just get it painted a pretty color

I definatley don't want it painted but if I could get it polished for less than or the same as Jet Hot($210) i'd go that route instead.I just don't have no idea how much it might run and I can't find anywhere to get a price.
Thanks,
JE

I have the ceramic coated trickflow elbow(got it really cheap on ebay) and it gets pretty warm, but I like a nice shiny engine bay.

If you want some serious performance advantages... try finding a place to teflon coat your intake. Its illegal in nascar for a reason. You can also polish up an LT1 intake to look like a gem. Just takes some time.

Re: Ceramic Coating Intake???

I had my intake moated by Performance Coatings and I think that it was about $90.00. I wasn't going to pay the $200.00 plus for the Jet Hot. When I do my LT4 intake, I am going tohave it polished instead. www.polishinginc.com does very good work for good prices, I have had them do stuff for me before and have been pleased. They have prices on their site. Turn around time is very good also.

Re: Ceramic Coating Intake???

I've been running a powder coated intake for years. My car doesn't run any different. It looks great and is super easy to keep clean. I went through my cooling system some time ago. It get's pretty hot here in Texas and my car never reaches half guage.

Re: Ceramic Coating Intake???

Thanks for the link n2oblkz.I'll probably go that route since it's plenty shiny and cheaper.
Should I have the intake ported?I've heard some people say their are no advantages and others say it should be ported.Whats the facts?
Thanks,
JE

Or you can also have the bott of the intake coated with a heat reflector to keep it from getting as hot, and have a heat "dissipating" coating done on the rest of it.

Re: Ceramic Coating Intake???

I had my intake ported when I had it off. I had the throttle openings done to 58MM and then had the runners ported. I figured I would have it done while it was off but I don't think that there is going to be any gain when you don't have ported heads to go along with it.

Re: Ceramic Coating Intake???

I have ported heads but i'm running the 52mm TB.Are the gains wort it?I used to hear people say it's only worth porting if you have the 58mm TB.
I plan on sending it off this week for polishing so I guess I need to decide if I am going to have it ported first.
Thanks,
JE
