Ceramic Coating + Header Heat Wrap + fire sleeves... will I burn wires?
did a search, couldn't find anything on the subject...
Since I can't get any money out of selling my car, I'm going to coat the headers... Would a ceramic coat, fiberglass heat wrapping and fire sleeves on my spark plug wires keep me from burning plug wires and other misc. wires?
I just hope the stuff won't ever catch on fire, I want the ceramic coating because it reduces under-hood temps, but I also want the header wrap to protect the ceramic finish...
is this a good idea do you guys thing?
thanks!

Re: Ceramic Coating + Header Heat Wrap + fire sleeves... will I burn wires?
Just dont let your wires touch your headers and you'll be fine. Even with ceramic coating if you lay a wire on a primary its going to get burnt. Sleeves may help, but theyre not a necessity. I dont have sleeves and my headers arent coated.
Re: Ceramic Coating + Header Heat Wrap + fire sleeves... will I burn wires?
With ceramic coating (inside and out) you shouldn't have any problems burning anything if there is nothing touching the headers. Do not wrap your headers. For one thing, if you coat them silver, how are you going to see the nice silver headers. The real problem with wrap would be that it would probably catch fire itself.
As far as fire sleeves for sparkplug wires, it is expensive to begin with and there are only a couple of plugs that might need it anyway. You need to make certain that there is nothing, including hoses, plastic, rubber, etc that touches the headers. Even 3/4 " is far enough away to keep things from burning, expect some hoses might get brittle if they are too close. JMHO

Re: Ceramic Coating + Header Heat Wrap + fire sleeves... will I burn wires?
i have SLP 94/95 style midlength headers
cylinder #6 spark plug boot is about 1/4" away from an exhaust primary (a VERY hot one at that!) ... even as we speak its drying out and only a matter of time before it starts cracking....
ceramic coating would help IMO... header wrap on top of the coating may help too.... my only problem is with that one primary... is there any kind of header spacer i can buy that will allow for that primary to come off of the spark plug boot?
edit: not sure if its cylinder #6 .... but the driver side one that's second closest to the firewall (think its 6)

Re: Ceramic Coating + Header Heat Wrap + fire sleeves... will I burn wires?
It's #5. Sleeve will help a lot. I got my #7 boot touching primary, with some carbon-fiber sleeves (like $25 a pair) it's holding for a month, without them - an hour. I need to dent this damn headers bad.
Edit: there also ceramic boots, nobody seems to be using them, but they are expensive and on backorder everywhere.

Re: Ceramic Coating + Header Heat Wrap + fire sleeves... will I burn wires?
I accidently got mine from local Advanced Auto Parts. Never thought they can have them. Try summit, for example TAY-2523. Do a search for a "Boot Protectors". Moroso had a best sleeve so far (up to 2000+ F), but I can't find it right now there.
P.S. It's "Double layered heat treated fiberglass", not carbon-fiber, sorry, my bad

Re: Ceramic Coating + Header Heat Wrap + fire sleeves... will I burn wires?
Unless you are SC, Turbo, Nitrous, your engine your headers won't put out 2000 deg. So the sleeves need not be that Hi Temp. Besides, if the sleeves are in direct contact with the headers, I believe you are just going to wind up with burnt sleeves on top of everything else that actually touches the headers.
With coated headers space you should be good to go. JMHO
