Are the 15x4, and 15x8 Telstars a DIRECT bolt-on......like the way they look and damn sure like the price....not too worried about how much they stick out of the the fenderwells...just need it for a dragstrip setup.

According to GM High Tech Performance a few months ago, Yes, they are a direct bolt on. As with most wheels of the like, you may have to grind the calipers down some, but the fronts don't need spacers, and you can use the acorn lugnuts on them.

 

No grinding for the LT1's, but the ls1 require some grinding..

 

If I'm not mistaken, these are the same rims GMHTP used on "The Grape Of Wrath". Right? Also, who has decent prices on them? I really like the stance of the LT1 Camaros with them.

 

My problem is I think the 15x8 with the 5.0" backspacing look silly... I would rather go with a 15x10 with 7.5" backspacing.. which you can only get from Weld Racing or Bogart Racnig wheels (Bogart will make them to specs).

The issue of GMHTP has the part numbers for Summit Racing:

15 X 4, part No. 135401547 $109.95 each
15 X 8, part No. 135806547 $128.95 each

That's pretty freakin cheap for a set of light wheels for using at the strip.

While I do agree that the 5" backspacing is a little too short, the conveniency factor (for me at least) outweighs that. You don't need spacers for the front rims, and you can run with regular acorn lugnuts, alleviating the need for longer wheel studs and shoulder style lugnuts with Pro stars or the like.

 

I just bought a set of those 15x4's from Summit along with a set of Pep Boys Futura 165 R15 Tires ($25 each!) It's a nice inexpensive set of skinnies for around $270.00 I'm using those at the track along with salad shooters and BFG dr's out back for now, eventually I'll probably break down and get the rear Telstars to match.

 

I'm just curious what back spacing you are running on these. Also, are you running 15x8's or 15x10's out back and what size tires?

I'm using a 165R15 tire for the front and a 275/50/15 for the rear. The fronts are a 1 5/8" backspacing and the rear is a 5" backspacing. It is a 5 lug by 4 3/4" boltcircle. Fastbird posted the part numbers for the rims that I have.

Nice pic. I've seen pics of it on mogmhp.com, but have never seen a side pic. Do you think the 15x4's would be ok as an everyday driver?

Here's my car right next to Aaron's, on the same day, with the same wheels. There were 4 people there at that meet with Telstars on, except I was the only one with 28" tall tires on back.

I'm running 26x7.5x15 M/T Sportman Fronts, and BFG 275/60/15 Radial T/A's for daily driver tires. I've got another set of rear wheels down stairs, waiting for when I buy some 28x11.5x15 Hoosier QTP's.

They were direct fit, no grinding or spacers. Except I had to roll the fender lip. It still rubs, but not as bad. Especially if I go over a hard bump or have a passenger with me. I need to get it professionally rolled.

I used to drive everyday with the 15x4's on the car without a problem, except trying to take high speed corners with no front sway bar...

Personally, I don't like the "look" of Kain's car with the 28" tire in the rear. Maybe it is b/c your car looks like a 4x4??

IMO, I like it better than the 26" tires. Seeing Face and Big Shawn run around with Drag Lites and ET Streets, a 26" tire looked so tiny in that big wheel well. I saw Tim Tosto's old 2001 SS with 28" meats on back, and knew I had to have em.
