cc306 vs. LE2

Alright guys I got a few questions for you. I am planning on going with the cc306, I am getting it cheap from a buddy that isnt going to be using it. However, I have heard good things about the LE2 cam. I have listend to a few sound clips and I like the LE2 better as far as sound is concerned. What are the powerbands like for each of these cams. I am only spinning my motor to about 6200. I know the cc306 makes peak power somewhere around there. But what about the LE2, higher or lower?? I dont want to spin anymore higher then 6200, so whichever cam peaks closed to that RPM is probably the one I want. Anybody got any input? Thanks, Dustin.

I think the cc306 requires you to shift higher than 6200, more like 6500 or so. You can't buy the LE2 cam by itself, but you can contact bret bauer to try to get a custom cam from him.

I also hope you have springs that will handle that cam.

If you are only wanting to shift to 6200 then the CC306 is not for you. You want an CC503 or the Le1 cam.

I shift my LE1.5 cam at 6200 or so.

CC306 or LE2 cam isn't for you if you want to shift at 6200. An LE1 cam or custom cam from Bret would be better for you. My cam is between an LE1 and LE2 cam and I shift at 6500....

Yep at 6200rpm a 503, GM846 or the LE1 or LE1.5 are going to work perfect.

I guess I could conceder spinning to 6400-6500. My motor is fairly new and only has around 10k miles on it. My buddy is selling me a practically new cc306 and brand new comp 987 springs for $200, so its almost too good a deal to pass up. Are you guys having any problems spinning it up to 6500?? I guess I could just do away with the nitrous to help save the motor if i am going to be spinning that high. Or I could go from a 100 shot to around 50 or so. What kind of rwhp numbers do the cc503 and gm846 cams put out with stock heads. Everything else is in my signature. I am also about to get a 3300-3500 stall converter which will help with a bigger cam. Thanks for all your input guys. I really appreciate it. Peace. Dustin.

To use 987 springs on stock heads, you'll have to have the spring seats machined, kind of expensive. I'd go with some PAC 918's, no machining required and will work well with your setup.

If you had to pay full price for any of the cams mentioned, what would you buy? Why? Are you sure you want to sacrifice the midrange torque and shift at 6500+?

"Penny wise and pound foolish." comes to mind.

Even with the LE1.5 I can tell its a bit softer down low, just a tad. A CC306 or LE2 wil be even more so. You have to give up down low to get up high.

You will need to get a higher stall for the 306, that 2,400 ain't gonnna cut it. But if you put the 306, a good 3,500 Precsion or Yank converter and 100-150 shot you would have enough HP to run 10's with good tires and a little suspension. Goodluck

To get the most TQ thru the RPM range that you run the car at WOT you have to give up TQ at very low RPM.

If you want to shift at 6200 then you should keep the hot cam you have in there. Buy the cam and springs and sell them, that or hold on to them untill you port your heads, then slap in the cc306. Stock heads WILL work OK with the cc306, so keep the hot cam with the stock head for now. Just up your shot to a 150 if you want alittle extra. Just my 2 cents.

Good advice. Skip the 306 for now.

I have the LE2 package and my bottom end tq is not soft at all. I have a good PCMForLess tune and that makes a big difference.

Let me clarify.
With my stock cam power cam on quick at around 1800 RPM.

With my LE1.5 it comes on quick around 2200RPM.

A CC306 cam will be closer to 2700 RPM or so before power really starts.

When I mean soft I am referring to the engine being under the torque band and not pulling hard, yet. The bigger cam shifts the torque band upwards regardless of how good your tune is.
