CC306 vs CC305 on stock motor?
I'll be putting an LT1 into my '88 T/A and I'm on a limited budget now. Before I put the motor in the cari figured I should swap cams, since it would be near impossible to do a cam swap while it's in the car. The motor will be a stock 9C1 motor with iron heads, and i'm curious to know how either of these cams would perform with a stock motor. As I get more $$, serious mods will come. I'm just wondering if I will enounter any problems with either of these cams on a stock motor? Thanks,
I don't know much about cams but my guess would be no. The CC306 makes more of it's power in the higher rpm ranges. With your motor being stock you probably won't want to be reving it that high all the time to get your top potential. It would make good power, just on the top 3/4 of your RPM's. I'd stick with a CC305 or something similar that makes more power down low, that way the power is more usable all the time and you won't be potentially over reving your motor. Good luck, either would be a great addition to an LT1.
Youre going to at least need some new valve springs to work with that lift. The factory springs on those iron heads are not going to be able to handle .510 lift.
The good side of that is theyre not too expensive & theres quite a few choices. Crane & Comp Cams have springs & retainers available as well many others including Combination Motorsports which are the least expensive.
