CC306 Dowel Pin Length (optispark)

Anyone running the CC306 cam have to adjust the dowel pin length so that it's compatible with the optispark? I've read that some cams, if not adjusted, will shorten the life of the optispark. And since I've gone through my second optispark in the 20,000 miles, I'm wondering if that's what's causing them to go bad. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Don't leave it up to chance. Always check the dowel length on any cam (custom or off the shelf) used in an LT1/LT4 engine.

The GMPP book states that the max length should be .620" from the face of the cam

For a non-vented, it should definitely be shorter than .620

Sorry. I failed to notice you have a 94. This info I provided applys to vented models. I am unsure about the max length on non-vented optis.

One last item, I understand the max OD to be .250" if you had to hammer it in and the tip mushroomed.

On a non-vented application, the dowel pin should extend .300" from the camshaft face with a slight chamfer around the edges to allow easy installation of the optispark.

Well, I plan on installing a Dynaspark if it turns out my Optispark has crapped out yet again. So I'm wondering if I still have to adjust the dowel pin length...Thanks.

Dynaspark or optispark, you still need the correct length dowel pin.

I understand that. That's why I posed this question... For those with a CC306 Cam, did you have to adjust the cam dowel pin length or not? Just want to know what experiences people had with this cam in regards to pin adjustments. Thanks!!

Most camshafts are made with the dowel pin longer than what you need it, for the purpose of trimming it to fit your particular model.

I have a DynaSpark opti also. Check out their website for great info or contact them by phone they are exceptionally helpful and very knowledgeable regarding opti's.

For 95+ optis DynaTecg advises dowel length max of .605" from face , max OD of .250" and max .375" from installed gear. I purchased one of their early production models before the 94- models were even available. I don't think you will disappointed with the DynaSpark.
