cc305 and cc306 users... gas mileage needed
I'm just laying out my setup before i attempt my build next winter. I'm going to go forged, port the heads, blah blah blah. I'm stil determining whether to use a cc305 on 1.6rr's or a cc306 on 1.5rr's or 1.6rr's. The car will be a daily nice weathered driver. I've also played with the idea of a custom ground cam but i just want to get some gas mileage figures from all of you cc306 and cc305 users. Others with big cams welcome to post their cam and mileage as well. thanx
Re: cc305 and cc306 users... gas mileage needed
I know some people are going to argue with me on this one. But generally speaking when you start making more horsepower you are going to automatically start losing mileage. The different in gas mileage between 2 different camshafts that are both making nearly the same amount of power is going to be somewhat negligible. And wanting to get 18mpg instead of 17 shouldn't be the reason you choose one cam over another IMO. If you want gas mileage leave your car as is.
EDIT: Almost forgot to answer the question. I wouldn't call my cam big - but i am getting somewhere around 16-17mpg on a mix of city and highway driving.

383 w/ 414RWHP/412RWTQ using the CC 306
17Mpg in town (w/ some Hwy)
(Haven't checked it on the Hwy yet but expect 22-25)
Got to love FI and a good tune, BTW 11 MPG WTF you need a tune brother, or you have a lead foot

Re: cc305 and cc306 users... gas mileage needed
the less gas mileage I get, the shorter my cars leash gets...anotherwords..the z will peak its head out for those weekend fishtails and thats it.
Re: cc305 and cc306 users... gas mileage needed
getting normally 15-18 mpg with more stop and go than highway so much.
got 12mpg one time.....yea i was having fun
dont mean to hijac the thread, but the cam seems to like being around 2k. however, on the highway in 6th, it runs around 1600-1700 rpm and doesn't have any issues. Would I be better running in fifth at 2100rpm or 1700rpm on the highway as far as gas mileage is concerned? My rational brain tells me more rpm will eat more gas, but am i actually burning more gas in the overlap at low rpms?

Re: cc305 and cc306 users... gas mileage needed
With a 6 speed I imagine the gas mileage cant be THAT much worse if you are doing highway driving or if you can get into higher gears at low speeds and only get on it when it is necessary
I know if I get into 5th all of the time at 25-30 I can get 20 MPG for sure city driving, but that is a PIA!!!!
With 400 RWHP I could not imagine my MPG average being more than 5 MPG less, right now I get about 16-19 city, 22-25 on long trips depending on when I did the reading........I am always fixing something on my dern car.

Re: cc305 and cc306 users... gas mileage needed
The worst I have done in my 383 was 13mpg. I saw about 18mpg on my only trip with significant highway use, but there were plenty of events that occured on that trip that didn't promote good gas mileage.
As far as considering gas mileage when putting a cam in, I would say either go really small (probably regretting it later) and not have it change much, or go big and don't worry about the gas mileage.

I do have a bad rich problem........bad header gasket. And I have a much heavier foot than lead!!!
Re: cc305 and cc306 users... gas mileage needed
I've gotten anywhere from 8-18 in the city...and close to 30 on the hwy...hopefully it want change too much when i put the 306 in in a couple of weeks!
Re: cc305 and cc306 users... gas mileage needed
well, it's not like i don't know that more power means more gas mileage, but i don't want to go laying down 10mpg with a huge cam, when i can lay down 15 mpg or so with a more mild cam. as i stated, it's going to be a daily driver in the nicer weather, so i'd be happpy with 15 mpg city.

For a smaller cam the 306 made a nice daily driver type cam...
