!Cats and Borla w/open plate...
!Cats and Borla w/open plate...
I just came back from the shop and had them take off my cats for a grand total of $40.... On the drive home, it was incredibly loud, deafening at WOT... lol my ears are hurting... Its true how they said it feels like the powerband shifts to the higher rpms, and it does have the loud clapping noise associated with it. I think imma run a smaller plate, because MAN THAT THING IS SO DAMN LOUD. How much hp do you think taking the cats off is worth?? Thanks
just say a few horses....no matter what plate ur gonna put in ur gonna get power gains anyway, and will never know an exact gain until the car is thrown on a consistant dyno. really its all bout preference in sound.
I got my borla with a cat on there and im using the smallest plate borla offers......im satisfied with it
also depends on how radical ur motor is...
just a thought~

i plan on running edelbrock headers, no cat, and no plate in my borla( i only got 1 other with my purcaase-used) i KNOW its gonna be LOUD!!
I dont care, i wanna be HEARD, plus its not my daily driver

I did the same thing with my car last week, but it actually made me car feel less torquey on the low end
On the way home, I was noticing that I had to give it more gas and let the clutch out slightly later because it would almost kill when I first took off.... Could the exhaust be TOO open with no plate?

Yeah, I kinda felt the same thing, what I hear is that you have less back pressure which shifts the powerband to higher rpms. In order to compensate for that, I put in one of the restrictor plates so it has some backpressure, leaving the powerband somewhat normal, or at least I would think so.
I love my set up, mabee you should do the same.
Long Tubes + !Cats + Borla + DMH Borla E cutout =
I leave the E plate closed when driving around town and it sound nice, not loud just perfect. It does not grab too much unwanted attention. BUT when I want to race someone, I just push the rocker Switch and its Wide Open and sounds MEAN at WOT.
I love my set up.
Thanks,
Claude

Instead of a straight pipe, I went with a 16" bullet muffler. It is about the same length as the cat. Best of all, it mellows out the exhaust, getting rid of the raspiness. I can't see how it could be much of a restriction at all. It's pretty much just a perforated straight pipe wrapped in sound absorbing material.
I had a straight pipe without the bullet, and it was LOUD, even through the muffler. 11.8:1 compression and a 230/236 cam with headers
