Catback right for me?
As you might have guessed i have a 1997 Camaro Z28, maual, all of the goodies (loaded), it has performance headers on it and cleaned out cats (the dual cats). The Service Engine soon light has come on and i took it to get hooked up to a computer and it said that the mix was running lean and that there was something amiss with my chip. I'm thinking that the cleaned out cats have some how affected my O2 censor and caused it to run lean. to fix this problem i was thinking about just getting high-flow cats and a catback system. What i'm not sure about is if cats come with the cat back systems, such as the ones that seem to cost $600+ If someone could recommend a good setup that is still fairly cheap, around 600, or offer anyother ideas on what could be amiss i would greatly appretiate it.
Catalytic converters don't come with cat-back systems. As far as a decent system for reasonable cash, look at the Borla. It's all stainless, adjustable, and will make power. I would leave your gutted cats in there. The code you are getting is probably an O2 sensor out of range. Gutted cats will cause a SES because the only purpose of the rear O2's is to detect the efficiency of the cats. If they're not present (or gutted), it will cause them to show out of range.
Try some O2 simulators. They replicate the signal that the rear O2's make to trick the computer into thinking the cats are functioning properly. You can find them at most places for well under $100/pair. A lot cheaper than new cats!!!!
Hope this helps. Good luck.
