catalytic converters

I'm putting a dynomax bullet on my 94 z28 in about a week, and was wondering if it is legal to put a pipe in place of the catalytic converter. I live in Oklahoma where there are no inspections. Also, would taking the cat out benefit over just gutting the cat? Thanks for your help.

i think it is a federal thing requiring cats, but seeing how they dont do test in OK you can do it and it really wont matter

gutting your cat will not only ruin it if you ever want to put it back on if you sell the car, but it wont sound very good either, a straight pipe is better, and maybe good for 5 hp but dont be expecting much, the exhaust will be louder, and smell and probably blow out carbon, but in my opinion its something that you can do and not really worry about

Your car has to be at least 5 years old before you can even touch the cat legally (at least the areas I've been in). The straight pipe would be better flow than gutting the cat since the air stays straight withought getting caught up in a gutted cat.

yea, most shops (muffler/exhaust) will look at you like your stupid when u ask them if they can do it.

you must find a speed shop or someone on thhe side that'll do it for u, cause those places can get heavily fined for involvement in removing the cats...

Is that true of all states? Is it in fact a federal law?

It's Federal, you can't remove the cats anywhere, but if you don't have to pass emissions you can probably get away with it.

I know for a fact that it is federal law that you cannot even touch the cat unless the vehicle is 5 yrs old or more.
