catalytic converter questions
catalytic converter questions
hello, I'm installing a MAC 94-95 Single Catalytic header setup on my 94 formula and it says
I do not want a MAC catalytic converter, but rather a carsound. does carsound make a catalytic converter that will bolt on between the starter tube of the MAC headers to my loudmouth exhaust? Or will there need to be welding?

I know the 94109 is referred, but will that have to have an extra length of pipe welded to it to make it fit between the starter tube and my lm or will the larger 94009 fit better?
this is the 94100 series diagram:

and here is the 94000 series diagram:
Description: System includes all necessary hardware and starter tube for catalytic. All air emission hookups and sensor bosses where required.

Honestly the best thing to do is go ahead and put the headers on and hook up the Ypipe, get the cat you want and go over to an exhaust shop. This gives you a good excuse to drive it open header
It's just really hard to tell if it will fit or not, and the cat needs to be welded on there anyway so even if a small length of pipe is needed it won't be a big deal. Just make sure you have a 3" in and out converter, I think that is right for your application, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Edit: to be a little more helpful I just measured my factory cat. It was about 17 3/4". Unless the catalytic converter you buy is specifically made for your application Fbody you will have to weld. The universal catalytic converters you are looking at do not have provisions for bolting to the catback as your factory cat does. So the very first part of the catback will have to be cut and welded to the back of the cat, and the front of the cat will have to be welded too. Basically my advice, get whatever cat you want, drive open header to the exhaust shop, pay them to make the connections and weld them up.

Look up performancepeddler on Ebay. I got my Carsound cat from them WAY cheaper than the prices on the site you showed.
I think mine was $31.50 plus $15 shipping. It was brand new and looks great. They flow very well also.
I got the model 94109

You will need to weld the starter pipe to one side of the cat, and have the muffler shop finish the other side. Just make sure they put the male ball end on the other side.
