catalytic converter

Hey guys, gonna get a y-pipe welded up for my jet hots...i have the hooker y-pipe and i was going to get the cat welded in in the section right in front of the cat-back system...will the cat work all the way back there or should it be closer to the headers?

no information to base this on but i dont think it would matter. all the air has to go through it at one point or another. is there some shielding under the car that might make one spot better than another?? maybe some air flow engineer type can say better where to put it.

If you have emissions testing where you live, moving the CAT(s) from from its original location would be a violation. The farther back you move it, the less effective it is as the exhaust cools as it moves through the system and CAT's need to reach a certain temp to be effective.

It will work there, and work fine. That's where mine is. You'll have to take out the tunnel brace to fit the cat. No big deal, four bolts.
