Which cat back system?

Edelbrock, Flowmaster, Hooker are all about the same price right around 300. Which one is the best for my LT-1? I'm mainly looking for a deeper more verocious sound, and it would be nice to go with my K&N cai.

Oh, and why id Borla so god dang expensive??

SLP 2OTL sounds awesome fyi.

Otherwise out of those three I would go with the hooker.

I vote for your own custom setup with Spintech mufflers. They sound NASTY!

That is a good question about Borla...Id say they are the most because they are the only cat bac that can legally sell an open system. The rest have a system that must go thru the muffler. Some shops will not put in cut outs due to severe state fines. They also promise their 1,000,000 mile warranty, not that that matters more than a marketing tactic. I see alot of people putting hooker cat bacs on and I have and enjoy my flowmaster catbac, but may switch to borla since I dont have headers installed and need the extra flow. If you have headers Id say they are all very reliable and not that differennt HP wise. My 2 cents...

I don't see what the big fuss about Borla is anyways. To me, Borla sounds like a garbage dump truck. Not the loudness, but the actual tone and sound of their exhaust system...Sounds like a diesel LT1. Oh boy, I'll probably hear something about that comment. I know there are tons of Borla fanatics on here.

Headers pro's and con's:

Pros: Good hp gain, makes the exhaust sound better, smoother exhaust flow

Cons: Installation and plug access depending on which header selection you make.

The pro's make up for the con's though. They are definitely one of the best first mod's for LT1's.

LOL, I completely agree. I "used" to like the sound of it a long time ago before I had really heard any other LT1/LS1 F-bodies, but it basically sounds like a UPS truck to me. OK on a stock or stockish car, but sounds like a$$ with headers, removed cats, or any kind of engine work IMO (same deal with the SLP Loudmouth). Although I do love how the Borla tips look though...

I personally love the deep muscle car tone of the Flowmaster, but people don't care for it much anymore because of its "flow" problems and because of how badly it drones. Otherwise, I think the SLP 2OTL also sounds fantastic on this motor and flows great. Hooker sounds nice as well but is way too quiet for me.

I totally agree with this. I think the 2OTL is the best sounding exhaust i've heard on an LT1 car. From what systems you've listed, i think the hooker is the best sounding.

Also, header install is not as bad as everyone makes it sound. Getting all the old stuff out is the hardest part. If you soak all the bolts down real good with some PB Blaster, it's not that hard at all in my opinion.

I would like to put my exhaust (heads/cam/FLP LTs/!cat/Borla) against anybody. Any takers out there?
