They are supposed to be very good for the money. I just bought one myself. Several people on this board are very happy with them.

I was quoted at 30.00 to install 1. You have 2 I believe, so figure about 60.00. I would think you have a 3", but to make sure you should call the dealer.

I don't know if you can buy an aftermarket cat to fit the driver's side based on the size, shape and placement. It would be a pain to weld one in. Before you bought anything, I would have your local exhaust shop look at it and give their opinion. You may have to buy a new Y-pipe with new cats. Which is what I did, plus headers.

Are you sure it is the cat? Do you hear a rattling from the cat? Is your exhaust sound muted? Smell rotten eggs alot? MIght be worth looking elsewhere for the gas milage problem.

okay I will take it too an exhaust shop and see what they have to say. its just not a gas mileage prob, its my car losing power as well. last year I could hit the gas from a stop and spin my tires all the way into 2nd gear easily. now she can barely do 1/2 of 1st. and also I've taken her up to about 120 ( yeah i know and i dont condone it either okay) and she seems to just max out there and feels like she doesnt have enough power to go any faster. my rpm will rise close to the rev limit, but it'll never hit the limiter, it came with Z-rated tires from the factory so i know its not speed limited at 120. So I've done the regular stuff, new plugs, wires, fuel filter, added CAI, PCV valve, rear end oil, tranny oil, engine oil of course, I've tried a different MAF, MAP, O2 sensors, got my hands on another TPS so tried that as well. I have an auto-tap so I hooked it up, everything looks normal, IAC counts ok, map reading normal, O2 Voltages ok, no miss fires, 0 knock retard, no SES. hooked up fuel pressure guage and test fuel pressure...no leaks, fuel pressure doesnt drop when car is off. my gas mileage has been steadly getting worse...the other day filled up, average was about 11mpg, down from 13mpg city. and I hardly take her over 2500 rpm, so its not like Im gunning it everywhere. so Im stuck ,only thing I can think of now is my cats are some what clogged a bit or something....????

I'm in the middle of replacing my Y pipe and cats right now. The car is in the garage up on stands as I type this

The '96 and '97's have the same exhaust setup. I ended up getting a Random Technology replacement Y pipe with built in high flow cats. One of the nice things about the random tech y pipe, is that it relocates the driver's side cat further back in the Y pipe, putting it right next to the passenger's side cat. This is nice because if in the future I need to replace them, or decide to remove them, it will be easy to weld something in the new location.

I agree with the previous poster, that the driver's side cat can't just be removed and a replacement one welded in. You're talking custom exhaust work now and it's going to get pricey. Might as well get the Random Tech pipe as replacement cats and get a performance upgrade at the same time

Thomas.

Yup did that already. they said they didnt make a direct replacement for dual cat camaros, only universal part #94006. So from what i read above people have said it'd require some fabrication. So Im stuck tryin to decide what to do, I shouldn't spend more money than absolutely necessary right now....otherwise I'd go with some midlength headers, a dual cat Y pipe and hooker catback all in 1 shot, but thats spending money i do not have. If i buy a Y-pipe to fit the stock manifolds right now, later on when I want mid-lengths that be a pretty penny down the drain. As it is my camaro isnt a daily driver but its my only car, so Im tryin to decide if I can live with it as it is now for a while.
