Is a cast crank OK w/ n20?
Is a cast crank OK w/ n20?
Ok guys, I'm building up a little 355 ci LT1 for my '96 Trans Am. Putting in forged rods and pistons, however, I'm debating whether to leave the cast crank in place, or to upgrade to a hardened nodular iron crank for a little extra $$$. I know i can't afford a forged crank so far, b/c this buildup has costed me a great deal more than I had anticipated. I'm planning on putting a 125 or 150 shot of nitrous, and wanted to know if anyone had ever had a problem breaking the stock lt1 crank under these circumstances. Any advice is welcomed. Thanks,
Brandon

Stock compression. Hearing what you run makes me feel much better about spraying a 150 shot on mine though.

I do like those times! I'll be anxious to see how mine runs. How many times have you run the thing? I think that 11.96's on nitrous w/ a stock bottom end is plenty of proof that the crank is not the weak link in my motor. Thanks.

Man I spray 150-175 on my stock bottom-end motor.
How's 11.03 @ 125.53 mph spinning. Car should go easy 10.80's with traction.
Don't sweat it. I know several people spraying 150+ on a stock bottom-end.
