Angry Car's screwed... need some help lol

Hey guys. Here's the deal. I JUST got my car back last week, had the transmission replaced, and the front end rebuilt after a lil accident. Ran and looked better than it had in years. Well, a couple days after I got it back, one of my roommates had to move it out of the driveway. Well, it was colder than a penguins nut sack out, so it didn't want to start. Well, he decided to pump the gas Ever since, it has ran TERRIBLE. Hessitates when you hit the gas, acts like you are out (or about out) of gas. Then today, we drove to snag some food... got there fine, car was actually running a bit better. We go to leave, it starts up, then we pull out of the parking lot (it was a pretty steep uphill) and onto the road and it just starts stumbling like its out of gas (but it wasn't). We made it about 100 feet, and it died. We had to push it into a parking lot. I walked over to the gas station and got some gas, put it in (even though the guage still read about an 1/8 of a tank) it started, then stumbled and hesitated badly, then died. Never started again. just sits there trying to turn over. Anyone have any ideas? (and sorry for the long post)

thanks in advance.

it's FI car, pumpin the gas pedal when it's offf should have no effect on the car.

Anyway, if I were you, I'd get a fuel pressure guage and do a fuel pressure check first if you think it's a fuel problem.

Thanks for the reply... I should say he pumped it ALOT while trying to get it to turn over lol. Not sure what it did, but it was fine before that, and now, not so much haha.

sounds like a bad fuel filter, if you were in a accident it could have stirred all the **** up in the gas tank and after a week of driving it finaly got enough crap in the filter to clog it

Pumping the pedal does nothing. If you hold it the floor i do believe it is some sort of anti-flood where it will keep gas from being pump while you crank it over in case the engine was flooded. Thats only on some cars though, I am not sure about ours.

It does sounds like a fuel problems. Reaplce your fuel filter first, then check fuel pressure and such.

I know from first hand experience that the gas gauge on these cars aren't accurate... When I bought my car, I left the guys house and got a few miles and the car died... The gauge read 1/8 of a tank but it turned out to be out of gas... Sounds like you ran out of gas and possibly sucked crud through the lines and the filter is clogged, like he said above.

put a fuel pressure gauge on it while cranking the engine.

Alright, thanks guys. Yeah, fuel gauge is pretty much **** lol but it's not the problem... I put more gas in it after it died n nothing. I'll try the filter and pressure gauge. thanks for the advice.

im not sure if the fuel pressure would be affected by a cloged filter, I think if you have access to a fuel pressure guage then do that first, but since a guage is 50 dollars and a filter is under 10 your better off changing the filter first. I had a jeep b4 my camaro and it had the exact same symptoms the first time I went off road and shook up the gas, and it turned out to be the fuel filter, it also fouled the plugs pretty bad

Have you tried reseting the PCM (i.e., unplug your battery for a few seconds)?

i know on my car having a quarte tank means less than one gallon of gas. its a triangle gas tank and sometiems the gas gauges or actually there sensors, go sour with age

Did it throw any codes (SES light) when it started running crappy? I agree with checking fuel press. and changing the filter but also think the throttle position sensor might be getting flaky. If your friend was pumping the pedal overzealously it might have screwed up the sensor so the car no longer knows what the real throttle position is. Something to look at if the new filter doesn't help and fuel press. is fine.

yea if the TPS output is greater than 2.5V while cranking, the fuel injectors will shut off, therefore, no start-up. check the voltage at the sensor with a voltmeter.

Depending on how old the pump is, letting the gas get that low will burn up the pump. When i put my motor back in the car sat for 6 months and when the gas guage got low it would run like complete crap, then i would fill it to half a tank and would run great for about 20 minutes till the pump got hot again.

My guess is fuel pump, You run low on gas the pumps tend to overheat
