cars with K&N FIPK....

i have a 1994 Z28

when you hook up the K&N CAI are you supposed to hook up the A.I.R. pump to the k&n tubing? and if so are you supposed to leave that little black box thing that looks like it could be a filter on the A.I.R. pump????

what is an A.I.R. pump anyway?

If you are leaving the AIR pump on then there should be a hose that was connected to your old intake plumbing that will hook right up the K&N. The AIR pump is emissions related and adds oxygen to the exhuast to lower emissions.
I just removed my AIR pump today and I have to plug the hole in the FIPK where the AIR hose hooked to it.
I am putting Long tube headers on the car so all emissions stuff has to go.

Why do all of the emissions stuff have to go because of the long tubes?

Because many long tube headers do not have provisions for AIR or EGR equipment.

k and n cai

When i put my k and n on there was a small tube that attaches to the new air tube at the same place as the factory air tube.
The k and n is well worth the money in my opinion.

So is a hooker areochamber cat back sounds sweet.

air tube

If all the smog stuff is still on your car, you definitely want to connect the hose so you will not get any trouble codes etc.

I really like my k and N sound great and feels great driving it

Alot of guys say the car runs smoother without the AIR pump and EGR, I am just taking it out cause the headers have no provisions for them and man does it free up some space in the engine compartment, almost as much as taking the AC out.
Nobody is gonna want this car when I get done with it.
Its ok though with as much time and money as I got in this thing I have to keep it now.

When I had stock manifolds, I put that tube between the air intake and the AIR pump on. But the K&N CAI came with a little cap for that for cars who don't have AIR anymore.

SSnakeEater, the AIR pump is a piece of emissions equipment (read: crap), which works on startup and pumps fresh air into the exhaust to produce cleaner emissions.

I thought the airpump was designed to take the hot air from the exhaust manifold and insert it back into the intake to help warm up the engine to operating temperature?
