carbon tracking on optispark cap-pics

anyone have any pics of what carbon tracking looks like on an opti cap? i recently pulled my dist and there was a pattern on the cap that looked sort of like a constellation-i reinstalled it because i wasnt really having any problems (was off during my cam swap) but now that my engine is revving higher (new cam/higher powerband) it is missing usually from about 5800 on up to when it shifts at 6400 rpm. so now i'm thinking i need to replace my cap and rotor. i dont have any codes relating to optispark. occassionally i get an egr code because my valve does not work-but nothing that should make it miss that high. also if i let up on the throttle just a hair or so the miss goes away, finishes the climb to 6400 and shifts. so let me know if you guys have seen this before-if no one replies, i will pull the dist and post a pic of the cap. thanks

If there was anything on the inside of the cap, you should have cleaned it off. You only want spark directed from the rotor to the cylinder terminal posts.

i couldnt wipe this away, i thought it was just a pattern in the plastic of the cap but now that i have this problem i am thinking maybe it was carbon tracking? anyway the reason i ask is i am deciding if i should try a cap and rotor or the entire opti. thanks for your help
