Cheap & free is always good!

Maybe your ordered an engine from somewhere other than GM or perhaps was able to sneak out an order for an aluminum head LT1/4 or something.. It would be cool to find out exactly what you would be working with.

I'm sure he'll be working with the same low compression iron headed LT1 that all the other caprices/impalas have. Someone probably just blew smoke up his bum. Kind of like all the cops that think their cop cars have "chips" in them that give them 50 extra hp.

This site has just gotten too popular and is starting to attract nuts and kids. I've seen so many stupid posts lately. The essay describing the how-to and benefits of the modified IAT was the best so far, but not too far ahead of the "my car won't spin so I'm gonna put a carb on it" post.. oh and we mustn't forget the guy that just a few days ago asked how many spark plugs to buy.

SILVER
I was using that as a example of what kind of power my LT1 had in it.
So stop cutting wise

There carcraft says that the Cop car LT1 is the same as all other low compression iron headed motors.

That would be the 9c1 caprice car. He says he got a lt1 and six speed from a cop car so it has to be a b4c f body car. Then he would have an aluminum head with a higher compression and bigger cam than the iron headed car. I think thats what hemay have meant. I automatically assumed it was an f body motor cause of the tranny till I saw your post and saw 9c1. It makes sense now.

Re: carb on a lt1? what has to be done?

The FI is much more adjustable and precise than a carb and HEI could ever dream of being. The fuel injection on these is also very easy to access and tune, I beg you to do some research before deciding to pitch it. The "smog" stuff that goes with fuel injection is also not functional or detrimental to power at WOT, EGR for example is only operational at part throttle to help avoid pinging and does not operate at WOT. To accomplish that with the carb you are looking at dialing back timing or running it rich, I wouldn't call either of those a good thing. Heck injection even helps an engine last longer, AFR is bettert at all times less cylinder washdown and oil dilution. You can't go too big on a TB the way you can with a carb either. Do not buy the claims that a carb will make more power than injection it is mostly those unwilling to learn about injection that will say such things.

The carbed intake will hurt HP and boost torque, the f-body is traction challenged to start this will make it worse.

Also being in NJ if you keep the injection and mod the car you can still easily pass smog, I am sure you have a plan to deal with that with the carb but why go illegal if you don't have to.
