Re: carb a lt1

The stock engine management system is amazingly flexible and capable IF YOU get to know something about it. The only real limit it poses is it will not rev past about 7200rpms, reprogramming it is suprizingly cheap too.
GM and Edelbrock sell the same manifold meant exactly for carbing an LT1 but in doing so you lose MOST of the benifits of an LT1. An HEI will drop right in once you remove the cureewnt oil pump drive and bolton a carbed intake or even the stock intake can be drilled to accept one.
On the oldschool heads the stock LT1 heads outflow EVERYTHING the General put on a production smallblock Chevy before them including the old big valve stuff, it is plain crap by comparison, so if looking at gen1 heads look at aftermarket and to make them worth the conversion you are going to be looking at highend stuff otherwise there are enough LT1 LT4 offerings.

Really I strongly urge you to do some reading before you yank the injection there are b-bodies running 10s with the factory computer,l if it can handle enough power to allow a pig like that go that fast I am sure you are not going to look for more than it can handle. I am fairly certain there are f-bodies running 9s on the stock pcm as well.

Oh and other carbed intakes can be fittend to even the stock heads just takes some machining or if you go ahead with a head swap to something gen1 then the intake thing becomes simply bolton without going to the special carbed LT1 intake.
