Which Carb intakes will work on LT1?

Hey guys. My buddy just bought an LT1 for his '70 Chevelle. He wants to know if a Vortec carb intake will work on an LT1??
Which other carb intakes will work (as a cheaper alternative to the gmpp LT1 carb intake)???

any help is greatly appreciated!

I've done some converted intakes for LT1's, just got some dyno numbers back from a setup running one with carb. A 383 with LT1 castings a single plane intake and a solid roller setup we did made 592hp off the bottle and 962hp with a 200shot. (on a engine dyno, not RWHP)

This all depends on the combo, that was a drag race combo. There are some off the shelf LT1 intakes from GM that will bolt up and they are the only ones that will work. GM part number 24502592 will bolt right up to LT1 heads. That's probably what he will need.

This will help you on your search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...q=24502592+LT1

the vortec intakes dont bolt right up,unless you get the gm intakes, they are gonna need some type of modification.

I looked into this a while back and the only intake currently made to my knowledge is the GM one that is TOO expensive.

I also thought about a Vortec intake and was told that actually a standard SBC intake would more closely align with the ports, but the bolt holes would have to be re-drilled.

So I gave up and quit my search.

the gm one is only 235 bucks...and whats the vortec? 200...and as cast the gm intake will flow as well or more then the EFI intake..and it has A LOT of material that can be port matched

Which SBC intakes work on LT1

You have another option if the motor isn't in the car yet, get whatever conventional intake you want to run and have a machince shop redrill the LT1 heads for the convetional intake bolt pattern.

Ya but doesnt mean the port will line up. and wouldnt it be easier to redrill the intake than the heads?

Yes the ports will line up if the machine shop is competent, and the reason you can't do it the other way around is the runners of a conventional sbc won't allow you to get the bolt holes lined up with the LT1 gasket. I know because I tried this, my engine was already built and in the car and my machine shop tried to match the regular sbc intake to the LT1 bolt pattern and that's how I know.
