Carb conversion or not?

Here's the deal:

I've got an LT1 out of my '96 that I am going to put in my '70. I've been doing research on it and can't make up my mind on whether or not to do a carb conversion. I'd like to keep the fuel injection for the mileage and the novelty of looking under the hood and seeing a late model engine, but it seems like it would be a lot easier to do it carb'd. I've found a lot of you guys in past post's don't like the idea of putting a carb on a perfectly good fuel injected motor. I'd like to go that route but I just need a little bit of help ironing out the kinks. Here goes:

Fuel; from the tank to the intake, what do i need (fuel pump, lines, etc.) and can I make all the fuel lines out of my '96 work in the 70?

Wiring; I have the original wiring harness and I wouldn't want to have to spend $500 on a Painless Harness, so how can I splice that into the car (or would it not be worth my effort?)

Gauges; I'd like to get electric gauges anyway, would those be able to work with the computer, and how would I splice those into the system?

I'd really appreciate any help you guys could give me on this, otherwise I'm just gonna go carb because I already know everything I need to do that.

Thanks In advance.

Sounds like you would be better off going carb if you know it so well... Fuel injection doesn't take much to learn the basics.. Im not sure what you wanna do with the car? Drag race it? If so then you would need to learn tuning which is VERY time consuming.. Or at least find someone to do it for you!

Actually I'm trying to make the car like a pro-touring type, with the reliability of a daily driver because well, thats what its gonna be.

My opinion on this, which is very nuetral, or advice really is this. Putting a FI LT1 into another car is going to be a little challenging becasue using the stock harness a lot of hacking will be required.
I would sned the pcm out, and disable the EVAP, EGR, and AIR functions, so it is one lesst thing to screw with in installation, especially that EVAP.

FUel is easy: stock pump, run some of your own lines from the factory one and reuse the factory one by the manifold. when you take them off your car they all are hose clamped on, and the connectors can be found at AZ. The hardest is the wiring since i dont know the stock harness will be removed in one piece from the firewall?

Sine you want to use electric guages the painless may be the way to go. I dont think the signals from the stock harnes would be compatable, since it just plugs in (the entire guage assy. as a unit) i wound wnat to find out what each wire does...usint the stock guages would be bad@ss

I think I may just save up my pennies and get the Painless since I do have another daily driver... I'm not in a big hurry to get it out on the road, the car was practically free.

About the fuel pump, are you sure it will fit in my tank? It's shaped WAY different than a 4th gen.

If I were putting an LT1 into an older, non-electronic car, and I really wanted to use fuel injection, I would definitely go with a stand-alone aftermarket solution, as opposed to trying to adapt the new computer to the old car.

Having said that, part of the charm of those older cars is the sound of the carburator trying to suck pigeons off the sidewalk.
