Carb on 96?
Carb on 96?
I have a built 327 carb motor sitting in the garage, dying to be run. I was wondering if the motor would fit? It looks like a carb and air cleaner would be a little too tall? Any body know of this, or have pics.... any insight? Help would be appreciated!
Do you understand that all the GM gen 1 heads are inferior to the LT1 and that even a lot of aftermarket gen 1 stuff is as well?
Point being a LOT of what guys think is good old stuff sucks compared to the newer stuff.
The distributor is going to be a big headache.

I understand that the newer stuff is cool, the older stuff doesnt suck... But the point is, everyone has a 383 lt1. Thats the only way to go to get the 550 my 327 is putting down. The carb small block would be a very cool thing to do. Original! I have 4500 invested in this motor, and I dont plan on putting that much into my LT1. I already have this motor built and it would be a good change to the 383 LT1. I was asking about fitment. I dont think the HEI will fit, for that matter, it doesnt look as if a carb will fit!
Reason you THINK you need a 383 to get that power out of an LT1 is because most of the examples you see are not done very well. People build on marketing not results. 550 flywheel is not out of reach for a NA 355 LT1, been done just not with popular parts, does not mean the parts are exotic or expensive either.
Like I said the distributor is going to be a bigger problem for you.
Might help to know the 91-3 Caprice engines used a bigger distributor hole in the intake so you could tip it further to get it out from under the cowl. Not that you want those intakes but maybe you could open up the existing intake and use a distributor base from one of those Caprices and gain a little more wiggle room.

the distributor deal is easy, use a very small aftermarket distributor and a crank trigger, set the timing on the engine stand double check it with a light when it's in the car running.
no it won't fit without a cowl hood, and you might have to cut on the cowl panel to get everything to fit.
