carb

I'm curious as to what carb is everyone running with a carb conversion? I'm thinking about getting a Speed Demon 750 Mechanical Secondary (no choke). Any thoughts on my carb choice? Anyone point me in a better direction for a carb choice? Thank you!

Re: carb

Demon is a good carb, one of the best in fact, but you may want to use a formula( not sure what it is but it is in the classic engine tech somewhere) to make sure that 750 is the best size for you. By putting a carb on the lt1 it makes it almost just like a sbc with reverse flow cooling. Also it is a good idea to go a little bigger incase you will want future mods that would require a bigger carb.

Re: carb

wow...750 was complete overkill! I did do the formula and with a max VE of 100 percent my CFM needed equals out to be 608CFM....thats IF VE is 100%. But I have ported heads and headers so it could possibly be in the 95% range... . Works for me. So I'm not going to go any higher than 650, possibly a 625. But then my questions is this:does everyone run a manual choke, electric, hot air, or no choke at all???????

Re: carb

Ive had 5 carbed vehicles and all but 1 had the choke wired open...i hate messing with them. On car was my daily driver and it started pretty hard in the winter and the manual choke would always hang up so i just put up with the hard starting. The only one that works good is my dads pick up with has the stock vacume controled choke...works great. Wiring up an electric choke may be a good idea..try to make it so that a switch could be used to open it, i never messed with it i just wired em open or took them completely off...its not as bad as some will make it out to be.

Re: carb

okay, it was late last night so my calc was wrong...way wrong. the formula goes, cubis inch x rpm at peak power/3456 (at least thats the one I'm using). My cam setup peaked right at 6700. So my CFM would be 678.5, so a 700 to grow on I'm assuming.

james, I'm not to sure on this whole choke thing. After the electrical problems I had with this car before the mod fest began I know I can wire up to a switch if I got an electric choke. But what I'm tring to find is a 700 (Demon) that has no choke period. I'll have to look alittle bit harder I guess. I can always order one and just take the choke off like you suggested. Right? Works like a no choke .
